2017 Welcome Letter

Dear Families of BHSECQ,
Welcome back to all the returning families and a special welcome to all the new members of the BHSECQ community from the Parent Teacher Association!  By virtue of having a child at BHSECQ, you are a member of the BHSECQ PTA and we are glad you are part of our community.
Your PTA meets monthly.  We work closely with the school and our mission is three-fold: to support the BHSEC community so our children can excel, to advocate for our parents and students at large to bring positive change and to raise funds to support the BHSEC community.  Our budget priorities include purchasing the planners for all the students, funding the cost of the Y1 and Y2 seminar books, supporting school activities, clubs, athletics and school community events.  Please come to the meetings to learn about what is going on, to share your concerns, hear from speakers on topics of interest and help determine how our PTA funds are spent.
The first PTA meeting is Tuesday September 19th, in the auditorium on the eighth floor.  We will vote on the year’s budget, hold elections and discuss the upcoming events.  We hope to see you there!
We host several events throughout the year.  Some of our upcoming events include:
·    September 28 – A Back to School Night with curriculum information
·    November 16 – Faculty Appreciation Dinner
·    November (TBD) – Fall Annual Appeal Phonathon Fundraiser
·    December (TBD) – International Night
·    March (TBD) – Saturday Seminars where parents attend classes by BHSECQ professors
·    April (TBD) – Mix & Mingle and Silent Auction
·    May (TBD) – College Search “Talk Back” Panel Discussion where Y2 students and parents talk about their college searches.
All of the events and fundraising your PTA does need your help. Whether you have an hour or more, there are ways to help.  Just contact us, and together we will figure out a way you can help your child’s school.  There are many committees you can help with too.  You will receive an email soon from the PTA with ways you can help BHSECQ.  We know you will find being an active member of your PTA offers many benefits – learning about what is going on, a place to share your concerns, hearing from speakers on topics of interest and helping determine how your PTA funds are spent.

Our website, www.bhsecqueenspta.org, has lots of information about your PTA, as well as information about the school and student activities.  You can also find the BHSECQ Calendar there with the dates of important school events, college visits, PTA meetings and more.
To ensure you receive information about upcoming events and speakers, please make sure we have your email.  If you are not receiving emails from the PTA, please send an email to us at bard2pta@gmail.com and let us know your name, your child’s name and year and your email address or fill out our registration form here.
Please contact us with any ideas, questions or concerns you have.  We are looking forward to hearing from you and meeting you!

Donate to the PTA or Friends of BHSECQ

As a New York City public high school BHSEC Queens is granted a per-student funding allocation from the Department of Education that covers basic operational costs but does not cover the cost of the exceptional resources that brought you and your student to BHSEC Queens – small class size, exceptional faculty, college textbooks and lab supplies, and the many student services that are the hallmarks of our early college program. For these BHSEC must raise an additional $3,000 per student, per year or approximately $1.9 million annually.

Bard College supports BHSEC’s fundraising efforts and is committed to the ongoing operation of BHSEC Queens. In order to do so, the Bard College Office of Development and Alumni Affairs and the BHSEC Development team, including the Friends of BHSEC and the BHSEC Queens PTA, campaign vigorously for grants and donations.

How can you help?

By donating either to the BHSECQ PTA or to the Friends of BHSECQ.

We’ll tell you how soon…
